Turtles

The turtle season starts mid July when the first adult turtles come up to the beach to lay between 6 and 10 dozens of eggs. It is possible to observe the turtles but everyone should respect the rules and not shedding light on them or making noise or approaching them from ahead. The last turtles will come up until mid December.

After 50 days the baby turtles hatch and the staff of the conservation center CECON will organize so called “turtle-liberations” to escort them back to the ocean. Everyone can adopt a turtle for 10 Quetzales and gets a price if the turtle reaches the goal first.

There are baby turtle liberations from end of august until end of January. More information about the turtles in your hotel or in conservation center CECON.
